What I’m Listening To
The Book
Today, I’d thought I’d share one of the first things I uncovered in my research — Bessie’s bible, given to her by her Sunday School teacher when she was thirteen. Filled with her various annotations and reflections, it offers a beautiful glimpse into Bessie’s inner life — a view entirely separate from what can be gleaned from the newspapers, magazines, letters, and photographs.
From time to time, I reread her notes, and it feels like we’re having a conversation — as though she’s telling me what she struggled with, what she questioned, and what she believed.
