What I’m Listening To
The Book
The chapter I am currently writing finds Bessie in the fall of 1900, about to compete at that year’s Women’s National Championship at Shinnecock Hills. Recently, while visiting my in-laws on Long Island, I drove by the course and snapped this picture. Standing on its edge, absorbing the emerald greens and blue skies overhead, I felt the 120-year gap between me and Bessie suddenly close, transporting me back to that begotten era of brasseys, niblicks, and gutties.
It was a magical moment :).
